"Demons I get, people are just crazy."
This episode reminds me a bit of an episode of Torchwood, in which a very similar incident occurs. They go in expecting aliens, and really it's just humans being horrible.
It's curious, how shows like this seem to like throwing in at least one episode where there are no ghosts, or demons, or aliens; it's just people doing horrific things to each other (a point that I've mentioned in regard to previous episodes, though those cases were much more downplayed in their respective story lines.)
And because I'm a nerd, thinking about how humans become so psychologically twisted like that drives me mad with fascination. And it wasn't just the one dude, it was an entire family. Were they like that just because they had been raised that way, or because they share the same psychological hard-wiring malfunction? A bit of both? And what about the dude that started that twisted tradition way back in their bloodline?
And I have to admit, I fangirl a little bit every time there are bro moments on this show. When Dean was talking about how he felt responsible for Sam's safety, and has since he carried him out of their house the night their mother was murdered, when he finally found the barn where they were being held, him and Sam were so relieved to see each other; it was so mushy-adorable. ALL THE BRO MOMENTS, SO MANY FEELS.
